McWhopper 2.0: Burger King wants to make a mash-up with Denny’s, Wayback Burger, Krystal and Giraffas – and McDonald’s is still invited
A new twist in the McWhopper tale: Burger King’s McWhopper PR stunt, which was immediately shut down by its rival McDonald’s has been resurrected, after several other fast food chains "begged" to collaborate on its Peace Day campaign, it said.
Burger King had an innovative idea for Peace Day. The fast food company held out an olive branch to McDonald’s, hoping to set aside decades of hamburger rivalry by joining forces and creating a hybrid burger, dubbed the "McWhopper", which contained the best parts of both the Whopper and the Big Mac.
McDonald’s responded with a surly “no, thanks” – but now the story has taken an unexpected twist, after other fast food chains stepped into the feud. As Burger King wrote on Tumblr:
It looks like we’re going to need a bigger table.
Denny’s, Wayback Burger, Krystal and Giraffas have all contacted the fast food giant saying they want a piece of the peace burger.
And Burger King isn’t averse to the idea. The company has said it will work together with all those interested to create a jumbo hybrid to be sold for one day only at a special pop-up restaurant in celebration of Peace Day on 21 September. Even McDonald's, if the company changes its mind:
Our idea would be that we all come together to create a burger that combines a key ingredient from each of our signature sandwiches.
Looks like a Whopper-Slam-Pão-de-queijo-Triple burger could actually be coming our way. Although we'd still prefer a Bacon Double Cheeseburger….
