McCall: Trophy proves nothing
SARACENS director of rugby Mark McCall insists his side do not need to win silverware for the season to be deemed a success.
The runaway league leaders lost the Heineken Cup final to Toulon on Saturday, but have a second chance to ensure they do not end the season empty-handed in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership final against Northampton at Twickenham.
McCall said: “If we win on Saturday you’ll say it was a brilliant season, if we lose you’ll say it wasn’t, but I know what’s happening on the inside of the organisation.
“I know we’re very strong for lots of reasons. Sometimes for people on the outside you need a trophy to justify that kind of statement.”
Sarries expect to have fly-half Owen Farrell fit, despite the No10 suffering with a sprained ankle, but Mako Vunipola remains doubtful.
