Matthew claims Open title
GOLF: Catriona Matthew hit three successive birdies on the back nine to become the first Scot to win the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes.
A nervous start to her final round saw Matthew squander her three-stroke overnight lead, only to hit back with birdies on 13, 14 and 15 to finish on three-under-par and hold off Australian Karrie Webb by three shots.
Meanwhile, Sweden’s Oskar Henningsson secured a maiden European Tour victory at the Moravia Silesia Open in the Czech Republic, beating England’s Sam Little and Steve Webster by two shots.
