Maths graduates rake in biggest bank payouts
MATHS and statistics graduates are typically the best paid bankers, according to data out yesterday from salary benchmarking site Emolument.com.
Bank directors in London who are good with numbers earn an average of £398,000.
Next up are computer science graduates, with an average of £329,000, closely followed by economists on £322,000.
Although they might be expected to be top degrees for finance, there are others near the top without the usual maths pedigree.
Chemistry and natural science graduates earn an average of £316,000, while bank directors who studied history at university are on £294,000.
Further down, accounting, business and finance grads earn an average of £265,000, according to the survey of 706 bankers’ salaries and bonuses.
However, the report, which comes as students are applying for degree courses, also shows that accounting and business students are the most likely to work in finance – 34 per cent of those surveyed took the subject.
Next up is economics, which was studied by 24 per cent of respondents, and maths and statistics which were studied by 11 per cent.
