“Massive Monday” to see record jobs rush on 4 January
Planning on kick-starting the new year by looking for a new job? You're not alone.
In fact so many people are expected to start applying for a new position on 4 January that it's being dubbed "Massive Monday" by the recruitment industry. The equivalent day this year saw 11,500 new jobs added to Reed.co.uk's site on that one day, while job applications soared 31 per cent on the previous year – more than 235,000 applications were made in 24 hours.
The good news is that there's more jobs around than there have been for a while: job vacancies rose by 19 per cent year-on-year in the fourth quarter, according to Reed, with roles in education, construction and engineering particularly in demand throughout 2015.
Looking into next year, construction is expected to be a hot area once again, but in 2016 it will be joined by roles in manufacturing and health.

Chairman James Reed said: "The combination of a buoyant jobs market, which saw a 19 per cent annual rise in the number of available new jobs in the final quarter of 2015, and the first working day of the New Year, will see record numbers of jobseekers applying for new vacancies.
