Mary Portas taskforce set up to revive UK’s ailing high streets
LLOYDS Banking Group and the Royal Bank of Scotland are among the firms to have joined a new industry-wide task force set up following the Mary Portas review last year to tackle the decline of the high street.
The Distressed Town Centre Taskforce, which met for the first time last week, revealed its list of members yesterday, which include representatives from the British Council of Shopping Centres, the British Property Federation and the Local Government Association.
The newly-formed group said its first priority will be to carry out a review of UK towns and cities to identify how to tackle the growing number of empty shops.
Recent figures from the Local Data Company showed that around 20 shops were closed each day in the first half of the year.
The Taskforce will address property-related issues raised in the Mary Portas report.
