Mappin & Webb seeks to become Lord of the Rings
LUXURY jeweller Aurum Holdings has posted strong Christmas trading results, despite taking a significant hit due to extreme weather conditions.
The company, whose portfolio includes high street retailers Mappin & Webb and Goldsmiths, saw like-for-like sales for the five weeks to January 9 increase by 14.5 per cent.
The results were boosted by a soaring 53 per cent increase in sales online, after the group launched new websites for both Mappin & Webb and Goldsmiths.
Aurum chief executive Justin Stead said: “When we could trade uninhibited by snow we really performed.
“I have a rough idea what the snow cost us, which was significant, yet we could trade when it was clear and we certainly took our share.
“We prepared really well and the team executed a fantastic performance.”
The company expects strong growth to continue into the future, with the help of marketing tie-ins from the royal wedding.
Stead added: “We’re very excited about the future. The royal wedding is going to be a positive for the jewellery business community.
“We’re looking to be Lord of the Rings”.
