Manufacturers demand more support to aid their recovery
MANUFACTURERS feel left out of the economic recovery and are today demanding politicians give the sector more support in their 2015 general election campaigns.
Industry body the EEF has made wide-ranging recommendations for policies to promote investment in skills, innovation, infrastructure and energy security, and also wants to stay in the EU.
While mostly consisting of cuts to taxes and red tape, the manifesto also demands the creation of two new government bodies: firstly, an Office of Resource Management, to embark on long-term planning, innovation and infrastructure assessments.
And secondly, the industry group wants a UK Infrastructure Authority to strengthen analysis behind decisions on major infrastructure investments.
“Let us not pretend that we are seeing the better balanced growth we need for the long term, which still remains a long way off. Business has a crucial role to play, but government must also be a collaborative partner.” said EEF chief Terry Scuoler.
