Manufacturers ask Osborne for bigger cuts to the cost of energy
MANUFACTURERS today called on the chancellor to help out with their energy bills and with more advice and support on exporting.
Rapid drops in global oil prices have driven down UK energy bills, dragging inflation into negative territory and so putting giving a break to hard-pressed firms and consumers.
But in its budget submission, manufacturers’ group EEF is arguing for more help from the chancellor to keep energy-intensive firms’ costs down.
“While we have a long way to go to achieve a better-balanced economy, in his final budget of this parliament the chancellor can still do a great deal to underpin growth across manufacturing and industries which are critical to long term growth,” said EEF boss Terry Scuoler. “Bringing forward critical compensation for energy intensive industries will send a very positive message to key industries and any further support to efforts to boost exports and investment will be equally welcome.”
