Manchester Utd and Take That boost £100m Wembley revenue
WEMBLEY Stadium boosted its turnover to a record of nearly £100m last year, helped by a £3.5m windfall from Take That’s sellout tour and the 2011 Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona.
The group behind the 90,000-seat stadium posted pre-tax profits of £83,000 versus a £12m loss the year previously. The small profit came after it received a £5.9m business rates rebate, which prevented the firm from falling into the red.
The stadium’s record turnover – up to £99.6m from £92.3m in 2010 – was sent higher by Take That’s record-breaking eight night ‘Progress Live’ tour as well as the Uefa Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United. Club Wembley, its membership programme, also added £2.5m to revenue.
