Manchester United’s Rooney, van Persie and Di Maria get anime makeover in epic advert for sponsor Nissin
Manchester United’s new sponsor Nissin has turned the club’s players into Japanese-style anime characters as part of a new global marketing campaign.
The Japanese noodle brand became a global sponsor of the club earlier this year in a deal thought to be worth up to £10m a year, and is also planning to create Man Utd branded food products.
Fans might find the 30 second ad featuring anime versions of star players Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Angel Di Maria, more exciting than the club's real-life games.
The “Hungry to win” campaign will air in markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, India, Japan, Mexico and Kenya, and was created by artist Kazuto Nakazawa, who also created animations for Quentin Tarantino movie Kill Bill.
Considering the club’s performance this season which has left it languishing outside the Premier League top four, manager Louis van Gaal might be hoping his players become as animated on the pitch as they are in the high octane video.
