Malaysia Airlines website hacked by Lizard Squad claiming to be “cyber caliphate”
The website of troubled carrier Malaysia Airlines has been hacked by Lizard Squad, the group which previously claimed responsibility for taking down Sony’s PlayStation gaming network.
The airline's website shows a picture of a lizard in a top hat used by the hacker group. In the message it claims to be the “official cyber caliphate” and uses the headline "404- plane not found".
Malaysia Airlines said its Domain Name Server (DNS) has been compromised causing users to be redirected to a hacker website, but its web servers remain intact and user data remained secure.
In an update on Facebook the airline said the issue should be resolved with its service provider within 22 hours and that Malaysian cyber security and transport authorities had been alerted.
However, the hacker group, which claims to be aligned with extremist group IS, claims it has user data, posting an image on Twitter claiming to show passenger booking information.
The airline is still struggling to recover from the loss of two aircraft last year after the disappearance of flight MH370 and the shooting down of flight MH17 over Ukraine.
