Luxurious living locked-up at The Courthouse, Westminster
Central London homes sit on historical site
DEVELOPERS hope they have done justice to the site of a grand old courthouse with its new luxury development at the heart of London.
The Courthouse, the latest premium scheme by Barratt London, is located in popular Westminster on the site of the City of Westminster Magistrates Court in Horseferry Road.
Many celebrities graced its steps while caught up in high-profile court cases during its three-decade history but the court was earmarked for closure in 2011 following a Ministry of Justice review.
The architecture of The Courthouse is inspired by a classical Edwardian style and the building is made from Portland stone and bronzed aluminium in a lattice structure.
Gary Patrick, regional sales director, Barratt London said: “With The Courthouse and Fulham Riverside, we are redeveloping areas of historical significance throughout London.
“The Courthouse will be one of our most prestigious sites to date and our designs for this building, including the courtyard, will ensure that it is a tranquil place to live in close proximity to London’s bustling West End.”
A communal, landscaped garden has been specially created to form the central point of the development.
Arranged around the edges are 129 studio, one, two, and three bedroom apartments and penthouses.
Residents will be located moments away from the elegant shopping district of Kensington and Chelsea and the numerous cosmopolitan boutiques and cafes within easy reach in Victoria Street.
The Palace of Westminster is only a 10-minute walk away, while the City and Tower Bridge can be reached in a half hour stroll.
Many of the homes also offer magnificent views of the Houses of Parliament from balconies and private terraces while the interior furnishings take on a more modern feel.
Other delights in store for new residents include a fitness suite, a grand entrance lobby overlooking the courtyard garden and a 12-hour concierge service.
Despite its connection to politics in the nation’s collective mind, Westminster has a surprisingly village-like atmosphere away from the iconic landmarks and well-trodden tourist trails.
A walk around the leafy streets reveals a series of winding streets full of traditional English pubs, disparate shops that seem from another age, private clubs, and boutique restuarants.
There are also a number of well-regarded local schools including the prestigious Westminster School which has a history dating back to the 11th century and alumni such as Sir Christoper Wren, Jeremy Bentham, and Tony Benn.
The Courthouse is also a short walk away from St James’ Park and Victoria Tube stations.
Westminster is also a major business centre and on Horseferry Road you’ll find the headquarters of Channel 4 Television with its distinctive 50ft metal number four sculpture which is periodically “skinned” to showcase designs by emerging artists.
Prices start from £631,500 for a studio apartment at The Courthouse.
