London is the super-rich capital of the world with 72 billionaires
LONDON is now home to 72 billionaires, making it the world’s capital city for sterling billionaires and giving the UK the highest number of super-rich residents per head in the world.
The number of British-based billionaires has exploded in the last decade, rising from 30 to more than 100.
However, Alisher Usmanov has lost his title as the country’s richest man, becoming the biggest loser among a number of wealthy UK-based Russians and Ukrainians whose fortunes have diminished during the political upheaval.
Usmanov, the mining and social media magnate with a stake in Arsenal, is now worth £10.65bn, having lost £2.65bn in the past year, according to research by the Sunday Times.
Warner Music mogul Len Blavatnik has £10bn, or £1bn less than a year ago, taking him from second to fourth richest in the country; while Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich is worth £780m less at £8.82bn, putting him in ninth place.
Britain’s richest men are now the Indian-born brothers Sri and Gopi Hinduja, with an £11.9bn fortune spread across oil, banking, property and media interests.
