London cable car gets go-ahead
Planning permission has been finalised for a cable car spanning the river Thames between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, and contractors for the project are expected to be appointed soon. Sir Simon Milton, the deputy mayor of London, gave the go-ahead for the project yesterday, after a comprehensive safety review considering its proximity to London City airport concluded that risks were incredibly low. Funding for the cable car is expected to come from a combination of sources including third party, sponsorship and fare revenues.
