London-based outsourcer Bunzl expands into Spain and Canada
MULTINATIONAL distribution and outsourcing firm Bunzl yesterday said it had purchased two firms.
The London-based company has bought Quirumed in Spain. Headquartered in Valencia, Quirumed supplies healthcare-related products and equipment to an international customer base consisting of medical centres, doctors surgeries and other end users throughout Spain and other European countries. The firm recorded revenues of €18m (£13.3m) for the year ended 31 December 2014.
Bunzl also forked out for Jan-Mar Sales in Canada. Based in Toronto, with revenues of $12m Canadian dollars (£6.2m) for the year ended 31 January, Jan-Mar sells cleaning and hygiene supplies to distributors in the region.
Commenting on the acquisitions, Bunzl chief executive Michael Roney said: “The acquisition of Quirumed is an important development for Bunzl as it takes us into the healthcare sector in Spain for the first time, having previously acquired businesses there in the cleaning and hygiene, safety and food-service sectors. The purchase of Jan-Mar complements our existing cleaning and hygiene business in Canada and strengthens our position in the Toronto region. We are pleased to welcome the employees of both businesses to the group.”
Bunzl’s stock closed up 1.14 per cent yesterday, trading at £19.50 per share.
