London airport expansion: First designs of expanded Heathrow revealed
Campaigners for Heathrow to be London's airport selected for expansion have revealed first designs of how it would look after work was carried out.
The images show what the airport would look like with a third runway, as well as a new central terminal area, hotels and business park.
A spokesman for Heathrow said: “These new images bring to life the potential of Heathrow expansion as a plan that can deliver the next generation of airport. Heathrow’s expansion plans have not only been designed around the passenger but also the environment and the local community.
"That’s why it’s supported and that’s why it will create up to 180,000 jobs and £211 billion in economic benefits for the UK economy. Let’s make it happen.”
The Taking Britain Further campaign argues that a three-runway Heathrow would provide up to 740,000 flights a year, reaching "hub-airport" capacity until at least 2040 and bringing the west London airport up to equal footing with Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.
