LOCOG bar BOA pair from board
THE WAR between the two national bodies responsible for next year’s London 2012 Games escalated yesterday when organisers LOCOG suspended the British Olympic Association’s two leading figures from its board.
BOA chairman Lord Moynihan and chief executive Andy Hunt have been barred indefinitely because they are waging a legal dispute against LOCOG in the belief they deserve a larger slice of profits from next year’s event.
LOCOG said in a statement: “Colin Moynihan and Andy Hunt remain directors of LOCOG. The LOCOG board has decided to exclude them from board meetings whilst they are individually and actively involved in pursuing a dispute against LOCOG.”
Moynihan and Hunt believe the BOA should have received more than the £30m LOCOG paid them for the marketing rights to the Games in 2004, and want a larger cut of any surplus from London 2012.
Last week they stepped up their bid by asking the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Swiss-based dispute-resolution body, to adjudicate.
