Liverpool FC Kops stadium approval
LIVERPOOL FC scored a winning goal yesterday after plans to expand its iconic Anfield stadium were given the go-ahead by the city council’s planning committee.
Phase one of the development, which received unanimous support yesterday, will see Liverpool add 8,500 seats to the new main stand, taking overall capacity at Anfield from 45,522 to around 54,000.
Another 4,800 seats will be added during the second phase to the current Anfield Road stand, taking capacity at Liverpool’s home close to 59,000.
Work on the proposed main stand, which is being carried out by Carillion, is expected to begin early next year and be complete in time for the 2016-17 season. It expected to cost around £75m to build.
Matches would continue to be played at Anfield during the construction work, Liverpool said.
