Liverpool in bottom three after Blackpool shocker
LIVERPOOL (1) vs BLACKPOOL (2)
LIVERPOOL manager Roy Hodgson insists he is not thinking about relegation despite slipping into the bottom three with a shock home defeat by Blackpool.
Goals from Charlie Adam and Luke Varney put the top-flight newcomers in charge and they held for a famous victory despite Sotirios Kyrgiakos reducing the deficit.
The Reds have made a disastrous start to the season and now lie 18th, having taken just two points from a possible 12 in the last four Premier League games.
“Their great result is our nightmare result. It is a very bad day and there is nothing I can say. At the moment things look bleak and really bad and it is difficult for me to put a bright face upon it,” said Hodgson.
“But I really don’t think my concerns are with relegation, my concerns are that we are not playing to our full potential. I am not going to think too much about relegation with 31 games to go.”
Blackpool went ahead through Adam’s penalty and on the stroke of half-time Varney doubled the lead with a powerful finish. Kyrgiakos headed home a Steven Gerrard free-kick soon after the restart.
