Lift off as drone-maker DJI Innovations picks OMG to supply aerial cameras
British imaging group OMG, which provides the motion capture technology used in Hollywood blockbusters including Gravity and World War Z, has signed a deal to supply aerial cameras for DJI Innovations – maker of video drones used by individuals and groups, including the BBC.
OMG’s shares rose 1.8 per cent yesterday to 28.25p on news of the deal with DJI.
The cameras will be supplied by Vicon, OMG’s motion capture arm, and will be outfitted on DJI’s drones to capture up to 25 minutes of footage at high speeds for the photographers, cinematographers and hobbyists who use them.
The BBC began using DJI’s drones last year for filming in Brazil in the lead up to the World Cup.
“DJI is a great new client for Vicon and this win is a further testament to the strength and adaptability of our technology,” said OMG chief executive Nick Bolton. “DJI have a unique application we’re excited to be a part of, and we look forward to working together to further develop their product range.”
