Land Registry sale is shelved
The government has dropped plans to sell off the Land Registry, following rows between the Liberal Democrats and Conservative ministers.
The state-owned business, said to be worth £1.2bn, was expected to be sold after a consultation began in January. The Land Registry manages all records of property deals in the UK and Wales. Business secretary Vince Cable opposed the plans, warning that the sale was not necessary to modernise the registry.
