Lampard: Blues still in title battle
CHELSEA matchwinner Frank Lampard insists they could yet salvage their Premier League title defence following Tuesday’s watershed victory over Manchester United.
Lampard struck the decisive late penalty as the Blues came from a goal down to inflict only the league leaders’ second defeat of the campaign.
Carlo Ancelotti’s west Londoners remain 12 points adrift of United, and with Arsenal and Manchester City also in front of them, but Lampard is refusing to give up hope.
“We don’t really care about anyone else. If we keep winning all our games, we’ll be in with a shout,” said the England midfielder.
“We usually put a run of wins together but we haven’t done it so far this season. It is something we need to do now to give us a chance.
“It was important to win a big match again and in the second half against United there was a little of the old Chelsea in there.
“United have enough experience to know it is a marathon and there is a long way to go.”
Chelsea’s next league match is at Blackpool on Monday evening.
