Ladies’ watches go sporty for summer
THE boom-time days of watches looking more like rainbow-jewelled bling machines than time-pieces are over. At Basel this year, ladies’ watches had more focus and discipline, and tended to be either smaller and more feminine or more sporty, nautical and professional-looking than their sparkling, big-statement predecessors. As one industry expert puts it: “Women’s luxury sports/nautical-inspired watches are set to be a big hit this summer. Think Riviera not Ibiza, Capri not Miami.”
Here we have a selection of watches that immediately strike the eye with their mature, restrained colours: they’re in neutrals, whites, blacks, pearls and greys. But as you’ll see from the price tags, top watch makers are still striving for purity and opulence: these are just as luxurious as their predecessors, they just don’t shout about it.
