Knockout blow for Hatton as he is stripped of boxing licence
RICKY HATTON’S career lay in ruins last night after he had his boxing licence revoked following allegations of cocaine use.
A British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) hearing yesterday found the two-weight world champion guilty of misconduct.
In a statement, the BBBC said Hatton’s “actions and behaviour were detrimental to the interests of boxing” and that the 31-year-old had “brought the sport into disrepute”.
It added: “Ricky Hatton is not an active boxer and his current physical condition is such that the board decided to withdraw his boxer’s licence.”
Hatton, 31, was fined £20,000 but has been told he can continue to work as a promoter.
He is now at a rehabilitation clinic and faces a police investigation.
