Knee injury likely to end Johnson’s season with QPR
QPR forward Andy Johnson is to miss the majority of the season after suffering a serious cruciate ligament injury in Saturday’s draw against Chelsea.
Johnson limped off after 32 minutes of only his fourth appearance since signing in the summer from Fulham and scans have revealed that he has an anterior cruciate ligament injury which is likely to end most, if not all, of his first season at the club in which he has a two-year deal.
In Johnson’s absence, Djibril Cisse, Bobby Zamora and Jamie Mackie remain attacking option for manager Mark Hughes but the loss of a player who had impressed under Hughes when the two were at Fulham is a concern when QPR continue to seek their first Premier League victory of the season.
Defenders Fabio da Silva, who is on loan from Manchester United, and Anton Ferdinand both picked up hamstring injuries during Saturday’s fixture which the club predict will rule them out for a minimum of two weeks, rendering them unavailable to play against Tottenham on Saturday.
