KLM traffic up, down at Aer Lingus
AIR FRANCE KLM saw a steady rise in June passenger numbers, surpassing Irish rival Aer Lingus which reported a fall in traffic during the same period.
Last month Air France KLM flew 6.5m passengers, representing a 4.7 per cent rise in traffic figures. The airline said the rise reflected an increase in demand for air travel while at the same time demonstrating its prudent capacity management.
The numbers were boosted by the growing number of people traveling to Asia as traffic for the region was up but European traffic took a hit and fell by almost five per cent.
Similarly, Irish rival Aer Lingus said that the number of short haul passengers fell by almost eight per cent last month to 849,000, while the airline’s long haul flights were impacted by a 15.6 per cent drop off in customer numbers. Overall the airline saw passenger numbers fall 8.6 per cent to 941,000 last month.
