Kindle Oasis: Meet Amazon’s thinner and lighter (and more expensive) ebook reader
Readers rejoice – Amazon has revealed its newest Kindle which is thinner than lighter than ever before.
The Kindle Oasis is 20 per cent lighter than other Kindle models and 30 per cent slimmer. It also boasts a longer battery life, which Amazon claims lasts for months at a time. It also comes with a leather charging cover.
“We want Kindle to disappear, and Kindle Oasis is the next big step in that mission. It’s the most advanced Kindle we’ve ever built – thin and ultra-lightweight, it gets out of the way so you can lose yourself in the author’s world,” said Amazon founder and chief Jeff Bezos.

Amazon is also trumpeting better comfort for balancing the Kindle in the palm of your hand to read. The Oasis "shifts the centre of gravity to your palm, to rest in your hand like the spine of a book so that the device feels balanced for one-handed reading" Amazon said.
The price is steeper than for previous models: the basic Kindle is £59, the Paperwhite £109.99 and the Voyage £169.99. That makes the Oasis 357 per cent more expensive than the most basic model. And more than 2,000 per cent more expensive than your average paperback, although, that would limit you to 30 books for the equivalent price. The Kindle, however, would be lighter.
