Kauto begins dressage life
TRAINER Paul Nicholls aimed a parting shot at owner Clive Smith after bringing his care of record-breaking steeplechaser Kauto Star to an abrupt end yesterday.
Nicholls delivered the 12-year-old double Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, who is set to begin a career in dressage, to his new owners weeks ahead of schedule, after becoming disillusioned with Smith.
He said: “Clive announced that he had spoken to experts about the horse’s future, but failed to consult and listen properly to the team that had looked after him here for the past nine years. That really upset us.”
