Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho’s pride at Petr Cech transfer
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed his pride at the club’s decision to grant long-serving goalkeeper Petr Cech a transfer to rivals Arsenal.
Cech completed a £10m switch from west to north London this week after Blues owner Roman Abramovich prioritised rewarding the player’s loyal service over Mourinho’s reluctance to strengthen the Gunners.
“I support the owner’s decision to honour the player in this way,” he said. “It is very rare in football to make a decision like this and for that reason I am proud of my club for making it. There are not many clubs in the world big enough to be able to make that decision.”
Cech, 33, won four Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and both major European club trophies in an 11-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
