Jobs site sees vacancies shoot to highest level since financial crisis
JOB NUMBERS in the UK have hit a five-year high this autumn, a top recruitment firm will say today.
Reed’s website in October showed more than 165,000 live job opportunities, the highest figure since September 2008.
And Reed’s monthly index of health in the jobs market, which began in December 2009, shows increased monthly and annual job creation in all 12 UK regions and across every sector of the economy.
Construction produced a 74 per cent increase in opportunities year-on-year, while retail saw a 17 per cent monthly increase based on growing confidence.
James Reed, chairman of reed.co.uk, said: “As an economic indicator, the jobs market is demonstrating confidence from employers across the UK to hire new staff, grow their business and support a strengthening economy.”
However, Reed’s index also showed that salaries have remained unchanged over the year.
