Jabre Capital poaches a top trader from Goldman
SWISS hedge fund Jabre Capital has poached a top-performing young trader from Goldman Sachs, the latest in a string of fresh hires since May.
The firm has added 27-year-old Mona El Isa, who was one of Goldman’s best proprietary cash equities traders and was lauded in Trader Monthly’s top 30 traders aged under 30 list in 2008, aged just 24.
El Isa joined Goldman in 2004 and left in February after almost seven years at the bank. She will trade European and UK equities for Jabre.
El Isa is just one of several new hires being taken on by Jabre, founded by colourful former GLG trader Philippe Jabre (pictured) five years ago, to bolster its performance. The firm’s assets grew from $3bn (£1.8bn) at the end of June 2009 to $5.2bn by June 2010 but growth was flat last year.
Lebanese-born Jabre was one of GLG’s top traders until 2006, when he was fined £750,000 by the FSA for insider trading.
He moved to Geneva to launch his own firm.
