iPhone 6 launch: Five things you need to know about new Apple designer Marc Newson
As fanboys and investors alike get the popcorn in for tonight's big Apple launch, the rumour-mill has gone into overdrive about what exactly is going to be announced tonight.
We're 99 per cent sure the iPhone 6 is going to be part of it – the phone is expected to come in two sizes (with a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch display). There are also hints chief executive Tim Cook will announce the long-awaited iWatch (or similar), Apple's first foray into the "wearable tech" phenomenon.
To add even more fuel to the iWatch fire, yesterday it emerged that Apple has hired design legend Marc Newson, a designer known for his rather Apple-esque sculptural forms, to work as its senior vice president of design. Australian-born Newson has been known to design a watch or two in his time. Could it be that he's working on the iWatch?
Either way, his appointment makes him the latest in a galaxy of business stars – including ex-Burberry chief exec Angela Ahrendts and former Yves Saint Laurent boss Paul Deneve – hired by Cook to push up Apple's profile.
