Internet sales account for 11.5 per cent of retail as total spent online falls in May
People in the UK spent £733m online in May 2015, down from £755.5 in April, data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has revealed.
Internet purchases accounted for 11.5 per cent of total sales in the UK for the month, which totaled £6.4 trillion.
While the month-on-month figure was down, people in the UK spent 7.7 per cent more in May 2015 compared to the same month in 2014.

This is significantly higher than the growth in general sales. The total sales for May 2015 were up 2.5 per cent on the same month in 2014.
Last Christmas was the first time internet sales reached £1bn in one month, with people in the UK spending £1.06bn online in December 2014.
For the first five months of 2015, online sales were valued at £3.7bn. This was up 11.8 per cent on the first five months of 2014, where £3.2bn was spent online.
