Instagram reveals UK user numbers for the first time
Instagram has revealed that it has 14m active monthly users in the UK.
This is the first set of numbers the Facebook owned photo app has ever released for the UK market, so there is nothing to compare it to, but the company says that this shows significant growth. The company declined to go into any further detail on the numbers, such as how many users are individuals or brands.
Overall, Instagram has 300m users globally, with over 70m photographs being posted every day, getting a total of 2.5bn likes a day.
Facebook itself has 35m active UK users.

The figure was released as Instagram outlined how it plans to expand its advertising features, which were only launched in the UK last September.
UK advertisers can now place both still image and video adverts. A new carousel style of advert, which allow users to scroll through multiple images, are also being rolled out.
Today Barclays bank is launching its first Instagram advertising campaign, focussed on entrepreneurs that use the bank's services.
