Inflation Fete – Blow up hat to bowl in for summer City festival
IT JUST ain’t a festival if it doesn’t have a giant inflatable. The Udderbelly festival at Southbank has its giant inflatable upside down purple cow (honestly), Secret Garden Party has a giant inflatable Lionel Richie head and well, as of 2014, the City of London Festival has a giant bowler hat.
It’ll be great to see the iconic headwear back in the City – bankers wouldn’t have been seen dead without one in the 1950s but it’s a tradition which has sadly waned since.
The three-storey hat is to become a pop-up venue for the festival – seating 212 people for the array of events during the festival, which will run from 22 June to 17 July.
“I am delighted to see one of the City’s historic, and most iconic, symbols – the bowler hat – revived for the City of London Festival,” said Fiona Woolf, Lord Mayor of London.
It may not be a permanent fixture but hopefully it’ll go down well… albeit not literally.
