Andy Murray suffered a shock defeat in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open to Federico Delbonis, costing him almost $1m in potential prize money.
The Scot lost 6-4 4-6 7-6 to world No53 Delbonis in his first singles tournament since his fourth Australian Open final loss to Novak Djokovic in February.

The eventual men's and women's winner of the tournament is awarded $1m while even reaching the final is worth $501,815.
After losing the first set to the Argentinian, Murray fought back in the second and appeared to be on course for victory after breaking him in the third game of the deciding set, but Delbonis broke back in the seventh and went on to win 7-3 in the tie-break.
Since finishing second at the Australian Open, Murray had only appeared for Great Britain in the Davis Cup before arriving in California – the world No2 taking paternity leave following the birth of daughter Sophia.
His total earning for the year so far now stands at $1.2m.
In contrast, by this point in 2015 Murray had made $1.5m and competed in five tournaments on the ATP Tour (including the Davis Cup).
In the women's singles draw, fellow Brit Johanna Konta guaranteed herself $67,590 in prize money with a comfortable third-round victory over Denisa Allertova.
