Ikea enjoys record year fuelled by Chinese and Russian shoppers
Furniture giant Ikea reported another record year yesterday after enjoying strong demand for its flat-pack furniture across all markets.
The Swedish company reported an 11 per cent increase in full-year sales to a record €31.9bn (£23.2bn) compared with the previous year.
Sales at stores open more than a year grew by 5.1 per cent in the 12 months to the end of August.
China remained the fastest growing market, followed by Russia. Germany showed record growth and North America performed well, while southern Europe showed positive progress, Ikea said.
The company opened 13 new stores and three new “pick-up points” in Spain, Norway and Finland, where customers can see a smaller part of the full range and pick up pre-ordered items.
