I had full faith in all-rounder Chris Jordan to bowl England to victory and series whitewash, says skipper Eoin Morgan
Skipper Eoin Morgan insisted that he had no hesitation in handing Chris Jordan the ball ahead of England’s successful super-over victory in Sharjah last night which ensured his side whitewashed Pakistan in the T20 series.
Despite going wicketless and conceding 39 runs from his four-over allocation in the regulation match, Jordan’s yorkers helped restrict Pakistan to 3-1 in the extra over after both teams had finished locked on 154.
Morgan, who opened with Lancashire’s Jos Buttler, then hit the winning runs with a ball to spare. Opener James Vince had earlier made 46 in England’s 154-8, while Shoaib Malik struck 75 as Pakistan matched their rivals.
“We’ve been watching him [Jordan] in the nets and he’s our best yorker bowler and once we knew what we were going to bowl, the decision was pretty easy,” said Morgan.
“Handing Chris Jordan the ball in that super-over really epitomised the squad and the development it has gone through.”
A sixth successive T20 victory completed a 3-0 series rout of Pakistan and gave England, who opted to rotate their XI during the series, an early boost ahead of next year’s World T20 in India.
Morgan added: “We’ve been playing in similar conditions to what the World Cup will be like in India, facing a lot of spin, so it’s great to win this series.”
