Hunger Games production firm Lionsgate posts $42m loss for the third quarter
Lionsgate, the company that produced the Hunger Games, American Pscycho and the gruesome Saw series, recorded a loss of $42.1m (£27.9m) in the three months to September.
The company posted a profit of $20.8m during the same period a year ago. However, the firm expects a twist in the tale with Orange is the New Black and the final instalment of the Hunger Games, which stars Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen, expected to lift revenues in the second half of the year.
Revenue from home entertainment was also down.
"Although the (second) quarter will be the lightest of the year due to timing and softer-than-anticipated performance of some of our recent film releases, our robust film and television pipelines position us for a very strong second half of the year," Lionsgate chief executive Jon Feltheimer.
The stock slid eight per cent in afterhours trading, falling $3.03 to $35.25.
