Humble Grape boldly storms Seedrs’ crowdfunding charts
A WINE company set up by a former Icap employee is currently making waves on equity crowdfunding site Seedrs.
Founder James Dawson wants Humble Grape to open its first wine bar in Shoreditch, and its campaign is the “biggest mover” on the Seedrs site this week, having raised 66.2 per cent of its £250,000 target, up from 7.8 per cent the week previous.
Humble Grape’s HQ is in Canary Wharf and Dawson admits he could have raised the cash for the bar privately, but sees Seedrs as more than cold, hard cash. “It’s a marketing campaign really,” he told The Capitalist. With the tally currently at 82 separate investors, you can see what he means.
The business gets its name from an experience Dawson had in a wine shop where someone snootily told him Chablis was actually a Chardonnay (that old chestnut). The bar aims to deliver an unpretentious wine experience and plans to utilise technology, including plans for an app which will help people choose a wine based on their mood rather than extensive knowledge.
