Hughes given veto as charges leave Barton facing huge ban
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has vowed to review captain Joey Barton’s latest breach of discipline, which leaves him facing a possible double-digit suspension at the start of next season.
But Fernandes insists manager Mark Hughes will take the lead on whether the controversial midfielder has a future at Loftus Road, after he was charged with two counts of violent conduct by the Football Association.
Barton has until 6pm today to respond to the charges, which relate to clashes with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany immediately after he was sent off in Sunday’s Premier League match. That red card guarantees him a four-match suspension, and FA disciplinary chiefs have the power to more than double that if he is found guilty.
“There are experienced people who will come back to me and we’ll review the whole situation,” said Fernandes, who yesterday revealed a deal to build a new training complex at Warren Farm in Ealing.
