Huawei sues Motorola over sale of unit
CHINA’S Huawei Technologies has filed a lawsuit to block Motorola from selling one of its business units to Nokia Siemens Networks, demanding that the $1.2bn (£760m) deal be altered to avoid infringing on intellectual property rights.
Nokia Siemens is seeking regulatory approval in China for its agreement to buy Motorola’s network equipment unit. Huawei wants the deal to exclude any equipment based on widely-used GSM and UMTS technology standards.
Huawei alleged a possible infringement of intellectual property rights by Motorola in a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division.
Motorola Solutions said the case is without merit and it still aims to close the Nokia Siemens deal early this year. The deal needs approval from antitrust authorities.
Representatives for Motorola Mobility and Nokia Siemens declined to comment on the suit.
