Mobile World Congress 2015: Huawei makes a timely launch ahead of Apple’s watch debut
Huawei, the world’s second-largest telecom equipment maker, made a splash last night by launching its first smartwatch, just weeks ahead of the highly anticipated launch of Apple Watch.
The Chinese telecoms giant unveiled Huawei Watch, a sleek 42mm round-faced watch that works in conjunction with Android smartphones to bring notifications and apps to your wrist.
“We have responded to consumers’ requests from around the world asking for a smartwatch featuring a timeless design that is truly smart from within,” said Huawei Consumer Business Group chief executive Richard Yu.
Huawei doubled its smartphone shipments last year, propelling the group to become the world’s third-largest smartphone maker.
Next Monday Apple is holding a “Spring Forward” event in San Francisco where it will likely reveal more details for the launch of Apple Watch in April.
