HTC unveils new One phone with depth capturing duo camera
Taiwanese company HTC has unveiled its latest version of the One device.
It's another phone on the Android platform, and seems to be longer and curvier than the original.
The design removes the sharp edges from the device's predecessor with a metal and glass sidewall.
With a gunmental grey hairline finish, it features dual front facing stereo speakers, a 5" full HD display, and a Snapdragon 801 processor.
The phone's storage is upgradeable with a Micro SD slot, and also has a motion launch feature – you can double-tap the device to wake it. The phone's duo camera is intended to capture "true depth information for your photos", says HTC CEO Peter Chou.
In total, the device has three cameras. One 5 megapixel camera on the front, and a 4 megapixel on the back which is paired with that depth capturing second camera.
The front can handle 1080p video recording, and the rear can capture 1080p HDR standard footage. Shooting video is usually a battery hog, but HTC have upped the battery capacity from the old phone, from 2300mAh to 2600mAh.
When set to its new extreme power saving mode, the phone can last for two weeks in standby time says HTC's John Becker.
Chou unveiled the phone, saying that "we don't do gimmicks" at HTC. Chou boasts that "it takes the best smartphone in the world and makes it better in every way."
