HSBC appoints insider to head up new capital financing unit in Asia
HSBC has appointed Stephen Williams as head of the Asia Pacific division of the bank’s newly created capital financing unit, Reuters was first to report.
Williams is currently HSBC’s head of global capital markets in the Asia Pacific region in Hong Kong, and has held senior positions at UBS and JP Morgan. He graudated with a degree in geography from the University of Cambridge in 1988.
The unit will be headed up globally by Spencer Lake and will be responsible for primary funding products like debt and equity, and for mergers and acquisition execution. It was created as the result of a reorganisation as of 2 July intended to improve the advice the bank gives to clients.
