Horse Racing Betting Tips: O’Brien filly looks the Perfect each-way bet
THERE will be plenty of clues for next year’s Classics as the two-year-olds go on trial in the first three races on the card at Newmarket tomorrow.
The best of the bunch looks to be the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes (2.25pm), which sees the rematch between Pretty Pollyanna and Signora Cabelllo.
Precious little separated the pair in the Group One Prix Morny at Deauville last time but the betting suggests that Michael Bell’s filly will again emerge victorious.
This will be the biggest test of her life to date and at a best-priced 11/8 I’m prepared to look elsewhere for some value.
Now that he has his team back in decent form, it is worth focusing on Aidan O’Brien’s runners, particularly as he has won the last two renewals of this race.
With Ryan Moore on duty in America, the jockey bookings suggest that Lowther winner Fairyland is the stable’s first string with Donnacha O’Brien set for the ride with 7/1 the best price available.
She was brave at York and could have easily retained her unbeaten record at Ascot if it wasn’t for a bad draw.
However, her stablemate SO PERFECT has been pushed out to 9/1 in the betting since jockey bookings have been finalised and that is simply too big considering she boasts some of the best form on offer.
She ran on well to be fourth behind Signora Cabello in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and has relished the step up to this six-furlong trip in two starts since.
Last time out she was only just touched off in the Group One Phoenix Stakes and before that she beat the useful Skitter Scatter who has gone on to win at the highest level since over seven furlongs.
Last season’s Royal Lodge Stakes (1.50pm) went to Roaring Lion and trainer John Gosden will be hoping that his Beatboxer can repeat the heroics of his illustrious stablemate.
He looks to have a big chance but is only 2/1 and I’m prepared to take him on with the Karl Burke-trained KADAR at a best-priced 7/1.
The penny took a while to drop on his debut at Haydock earlier in the month, but he picked up in striking fashion late on and will relish the step up to a mile.
He can keep up his stable’s recent fine form and spring a minor surprise.
Only seven rivals have opted to take on Aidan O’Brien’s Ten Sovereigns in the Middle Park Stakes (3.00pm) and he is just 8/13 with Coral to land the afternoon’s other Group One prize.
He looked pretty special when winning the Round Tower at the Curragh last time and it would be a turn up for the books if he is beaten.
A huge field of 35 go to post for the Cambridgeshire Handicap (3.40pm), which isn’t a race to get too deeply involved in as last year’s 50/1 winner Dolphin Vista proved, but my two against the field are KENYA at 14/1 with Coral and UAE PRINCE at 14/1 with Ladbrokes.
The former hails from the O’Brien team and demolished a good field in the Irish equivalent a few weeks ago.
He has since run well when second in a Group Two and can go well again back in handicap company.
UAE Prince hasn’t been seen in action since failing to see out the 12- furlong trip at this venue back in May.
He’s never lived up to his once lofty reputation, but, back down trip, this could be the ideal race for him and it’s worth taking a chance at a decent price.
The ITV cameras will be off air by the time the Jersey Lily Fillies Nursery (5.25pm) is run but look out for Ralph Beckett’s CHALEUR.
She has been on my radar since finishing an eye-catching third behind Pretty Pollyanna and Angel’s Hideaway at Newmarket’s July meeting.
There is every chance that she could develop into a very smart filly and the step up to seven furlongs looks ideal.
