Horse Racing Betting Tips: Afaak can get the ball rolling for connections of Battaash
CHARLIE Hills will be hoping to walk into the winners’ enclosure tomorrow afternoon after the Nunthorpe Stakes where his stable star Battaash is the hot favourite.
However, he could get an early taste shortly after 3pm today, as I’m sweet on the chances of his AFAAK in the Clipper Logistics Handicap (3.00pm).
The four-year-old was an impressive winner of a handicap over this course and distance back in May and then finished an excellent second in the Royal Hunt Cup.
Last time at Goodwood he found his passage blocked a number of times before staying on late in the day.
That was his first start over 1m2f, but the drop back to a mile won’t be a problem.
Hills’ horses have been in much better form recently, after a difficult first half of the season, and I feel there is still some mileage in Afaak’s rating of 104.
The 8/1 on offer with Betway is a very fair each-way price, even though there are plenty of dangers with the likes of Seniority, Sharja Bridge and 2016 winner Firmament.
Today’s action gets underway with the Group Two Lowther Stakes (1.55pm), which looks like something of a match between Fairyland and ANGEL’S HIDEAWAY.
There shouldn’t be much between them at the line after they finished third and fourth respectively in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The concern with Fairyland is that she hasn’t been seen since then, while the health of the Ballydoyle horses has been well-documented.
On the other hand, my selection finished second to Pretty Pollyanna in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket before landing a Group Three at Ascot last month.
She looks the safer of the pair at 2/1 with Betway.
