Horse Racing Betting: Deep ground is perfect for Sinfonietta in the Spring Cup
The Spring Cup (3.50pm) is the big betting race at Newbury where the ground is going to be very testing.
My main fancy is SINFONIETTA for in-form handler David Menuisier.
This four-year-old son of Sinndar had some solid form in France before joining the West Sussex trainer last June.
Although still a maiden then, he was rated 95, but that mark plummeted down to 76 by the end of the season.
He made a mockery of that by sluicing up at Nottingham last week, clearly enjoying the heavy ground.
Now back up to 89, the way he won that contest suggests there is still room for improvement, especially when the mud is flying. Take the 5/1 with Betway.
The biggest threat could turn out to be Gabrial’s Kaka who won this race two years ago off a 9lb higher mark.
He ran well last time at the Curragh, but his very best form has been on a slightly better surface.
Recent Doncaster winner SANDRO BOTTICELLI will relish the boggy conditions and is taken to land the John Porter Stakes (2.10pm).
This ex-Aidan O’Brien inmate won well on his debut for the John Ryan yard and, although he still has a bit to find on ratings, he’s potentially a very good horse.
Next up is the Fred Darling (2.40pm) and I simply can’t look past BESHARAH.
She won the Lowther at York last August and then finished a close third in a hot renewal of the Group One Cheveley Park last September when the ground was possibly too quick for her.
Back on a softer surface, she should prove herself a notch above this opposition.
