Horse racing betting: Cross looks the intelligent play in Richmond Stakes
Coolmore have invested heavily in the stock of US sire War Front in recent years and it has certainly paid dividends, especially with their juveniles.
On Tuesday, War Decree landed the Vintage Stakes, which followed up Roly Poly’s Cherry Hinton win at Newmarket earlier this month.
The big race for two-year-olds on Thursday is the Group Two Qatar Richmond Stakes (2.35pm) and I’m hopeful that INTELLIGENCE CROSS can provide another big success for War Front.
Ryan Moore’s mount was only just touched off by Mehmas, his rival here, in the July Stakes a few weeks ago.
That was particularly impressive, considering it was only his third career start, and he has a 3lb pull at the weights with Richard Hannon’s inmate.
Penalised runners have actually won the last two editions of this race, so you can’t rule Mehmas out, but I fancy Intelligence Cross to reverse the form at 3/1 with Coral.
A bigger threat may be Godolphin’s Blue Point who sauntered to an 11-length win at Doncaster a fortnight ago.
However, we have no idea what he beat that day and he’s a very short price for what he’s achieved.
Jon and Julia Aisbitt celebrated a winner at Goodwood on Tuesday when the Mick Channon-trained Elidor defied top weight in the 1m6f handicap.
I think they could be in the winner’s enclosure again as their KASSIA can land the closing Tatler Handicap (5.30pm).
The three-year-old filly has won her last two races and looks a decent price at 8/1 to notch the hat-trick.
